It is essential to chose a husband who will conditions of righteousness and religious commitment, because if a man has these qualities, if he loves the woman he will honor her, and if he does not like her he will not keep her hanging or mistreat her.
In Islam, compatibility in marriage is connected to religious commitment and righteousness, not money, status or lineage.
Poverty coupled with evident righteousness and a strong religious commitment is better than a good lineage and wealth coupled with a lack of religious commitment or a corrupt nature.
Allah says:
"If they be poor, Allah will enrich them out of His Bounty. And Allah is All-Sufficient for His creatures' needs, All-Knowing (about the state of the people)."
[سورة النور : 24]
And the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم explained this important difference in very clear terms, as in the Hadith of Sahl ibn Sa'd رضي الله عنه who said: A man passed by the Messenger of Allah and he said:
"What do you think of this man?"
They said: "If he proposes he deserves to get married, and if he intercedes his intercession deserves to be heard, and if he speaks he deserves to be listened to." He fell silent. Then a man from among the poor Muslims passed by and he said: "What do you think of this man?" They said: "If he proposes he does not deserve to get married, and if he intercedes his intercession does not deserve to be heard, and if he speaks he does not deserve to be listened to." The Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وسلم said:
"This man is better than an earthful of men like the other one."
[Al-Bukhari and An-Nisai]
The Sahabah رضي الله عنهم took this important matter to heart, and they did not give their daughters or sisters in marriage to anyone except righteous men, even if they were poor men or were freed slaves.
It was narrated from the Mother of the Believers' Aisha رضي الله عنها that Abu Hudhayfah ibn Utbah ibn Rabee'ah ibn Abd Shams, who was one of those who had been present at Badr with the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم, adopted Salim and married him to his brother's daughter Hind bint Al-Waleed ibn Utbah ibn Rabee'ah, although he was the freed slave of an Ansaari woman.
[Al-Bukhari and An-Nisai]
The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم married Fatimah bint Qays to Usamah ibn Zayd, She thought little of him at first because he was a freed slave, and because he was very black, but the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم said to her:
"Obedience to Allah and obedience to His Messenger is better for you."
She said: So I married him, and I was satisfied - i.e, I married him in obedience to the command of the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم and I did not regret marrying him, because of his religious commitment and righteousness; I was happy with him.
Like this chose a wife who will conditions of righteousness and religious commitment as the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم mentioned in Hadith, He صلى الله عليه وسلم said:
"A woman may be married for four qualities, for her property, her rank, her beauty and her religion; so get the religious one and prosper."
[Al-Bukhari and Muslim]
The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم said that there are four qualities for which a man marries a woman, out of which a Muslim should prefer a religious woman for marriage because the company affects each other. If a woman is married for another quality, there is possibility of man's going astray and leaving the religion. Another reason for choosing a religious woman is that she is the first teacher of children and she can lead the children, the way she wants - right or wrong.
